The Kumon Adventure

was imba stuff.

No joke, it was the best camp I've ever been to.
Amazing crap, it was. And it all started on the 16th =D
...

I woke up at 7.30 to the sounds of.. nothing actually. But thats not important. Whats important is getting to the camp. I was waiting at KL Central for a bajillion years(15~ mins) before the bus arrived. On that bus, I saw this one dude, a Singh fella with his shoes off sitting on two chairs listening to his MP3 looking like he owned the place. ;) Keep and eye out for him later on.

When we arrived, the first thing that greeted us was.... A TRIBAL CHIEFTAIN! Or rather, a dude wearing rags and a funky mask. We had some fun watching him scare a few lolitas before we came off the bus. I managed to shake his hand before going down the slope to the "resort". Down down down the giant slope carrying a fat-a$$ bag filled with clothes.

*Insert registration and kumon-pack-giving here*

Sweet, I'm a
Rising Tiger! =D Lulz, sounds way cooler than what the guy sitting next to me was, a "Raging Bull", more like Moaning Cow -cough-. After the registration we walked up stairs that rival Batu Caves (not really) to some big hall where we were sorted out according to our tribes. It was there that everyone discovered the Tribe Chief was... A MISTER SURESH SINGH. He took off his mask and everyone was like.. "omguberwtfbbqpwnt!".

Our Ice Breaking (Quote Crystal: Breaking Ice) session was really cool. Our tribe facilitators were a sweet girl named Jesslyn, she's 22, not 23 xP and one super extraordinairy CAPTAIN ARIVA, which means going up in Spanish, but in Indian I don't know what it means :P He has a whole life story, which I will share with you another day. After the 2 uber cool facilitators, we introduced ourselves to each other. Thats how I got to know Iqmarl(Boss Mal), Sanjiv(The dude from the bus), Renee(Stoned Guitar Hero Player), Ken Yoong(Funny man), Crystal(She's not clear :P), Nabilla(Hurhur, I saw what you did on the bus) and Darren(Crowd control!). Boss Mal was elected tribe leader for having super cool baldness =P We were then given our cool crap -> A toolkit, first aid kit, and 2 loong sticks.

The first assignment of the day was to create a tribe flag, totem head, and a tribal war cry -Oh this is gonna suck baadd-. I ended up being the artist for the flag. Dang did I screw up the tiger xD Totally forgot its proportions and we ended up with an orange lion head with no mane :P The people who colored it did well however. (Okay flag done, next totem head!) This was uber fail. The guys in charge just stuck newspaper and masking tape together to make a big ball and stuck it onto the long stick. In the end we drew some eyes and a mouth. It was pretty scary actually. Scary tiger, but uglytiger  =(
The war cry was funny. Sanjiv suggested some Haka lines from the book we got with the Kumon Pack. It worked out pretty well, we screamed our lungs out with Mal leading us. Renee missed it though, she was chosen to go on the flying fox.

Lunch time!!! Some chicken and rice and.. PAPADAM!!! *drool* I ate like a pig and got to know Renee and Sanjiv better. Crystal joined in and we had a lepak session, although I don't think she really took to me =P After lunch we continued with a totem tower and an airplane(lol, I don't get it either). The Tiger Tower (TRIPLE T) won and our airplane was a massive flop, but who cares!

*Chief Suresh says BREAK TIME!!*

Renee, Crystal and Byla(I'm lazy, so sue me) went off to wash up and pee(Renee, this is for you!), and other girl crud and told me to sit down and wait for them, so I did. -__- ... Enter, The Malik! Malik Hisyam Zaihan, to be exact. A tribe member of the Ghostly Wolves(that don't howl) :P We just clicked like that, cause we be bonding! Once the ladies got back, we had a small chat session before we were called to assemble before Chief Suresh. Apache Call time!! Owowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowowo(Lulz, random)

After a briefing, and something I'm sure I forgot, we had dinner. Important stuff, that dinner is. I went to lepak for awhile and change outta my jeans into track pants in the dorm(which is way way up there) after that so that I'd be ready for the NIGHT WALK(the massive font effects show the greatness of this activity). We were given a briefing and funny crap to do like writing letters before the night walk. *Dum dum dum* Omaigawd, only THREE torchlights allowed?! 3 torchlights shared between 34 people.     -Time to get jiggy with it!-

Bossman, Sanjiv and I ended up being the torch bearers(I feel like an Olympian) :D Mal, being the bossman took the lead and was scouting the front parts of the path, I was in the middle taking care of the ladies -Hubba hubba- :P And Sanjiv(Now known as fearless leader) was watching everyones asses. Seriously.

Off we go!!! We walked past mud, and roots, and rocks, and through streams, and crap like that. Being a torchbearer, I had to get into the most awkward of positions to help everyone else onto the easy path :( Once everyone was in knee-deep water and I was in up to my waist a few feet away directing them. Oh well, at least it was interesting. I had to promise to the girls (Crystal, Renee, Nabilla) not to laugh in the jungle because for some reason my laugh is scary at night(?). We all made it out alive, thanks to great teamwork and leadership from Mal, except a few cuts(Crystal's magic cuts) and some injured feet.. Did I mention we LOST THE TOTEM in the jungle? One of the kids in my tribe was playing around with it and being annoying, he ended up losing it. Well, we still have our flag :D

-> Next mission: Get out of jungle, wash feet.
We did that soon enough :D After that we had some supper(water) and we got a small briefing about the next day activities before going to sleep at 12.30. So I said "nights" to the girls and went off to my dorm with Sanjiv to sleep. BUT WAIT, I HAD TO SHOWER. So I stood outside the toilet for a looong time with Malik(he came to the toilets later on) and Sanjiv. I was waiting there, shivering in cold clothes shouting at the people in the showers to HURRY THE FISH UP with Sanjiv and Malik. Eventually, Sanjiv got in one, and this is where it gets good. We were waiting for him to finish so we could get into one(mind you, there are only 6 showers total), but we only waited a minute actually. We heard our fearless leader scream and then he ran out of the shower screaming "Oh SH*T A SPIDER! ITS HUGE!". Malik and I took a look inside, and saw a spider about.. 4 cm long? We had some good laughs at Sanjiv before I went in and took the spider out. -Yes, I have the fishing shower room-

~Day 2~ 17th Dec

This is, was, and will always be the best day of my life -I love you guys! =)-
Today it started with a morning excercise, which was pretty boring except for the Mr. Bean dance xD Once we finished that, we ran down to the canteen to eat nasi lemak *yumyum* It was there and then, we discovered that Renee and Malik fail as Malays, and that Crystal and I fail as Chinese, lol that was an awhsuhm moment. :) ... Kumon Worksheet time. Lulz, we are good people, we actually do work. After that, we went to the hall again to listen to Kumon Completers talk about some funny carrots(I know you guys will understand this) then we had an activity. Pretty much we had to hold hands and squeeze them turn by turn, and the fastest team to do it would win :) Over here, I was holding Crystals hand *blush* my hand turned to freaking stone man, seriously kaku weyh. Other hand was *drum roll* Khes-money-win. Our team won this thing, cause we rawk, or rather, we rawr!

... Water activities are fail. Seriously. We had a bunch of outdoor challenges, and we failed massively in one of the water activities, because our boat rowers sucked(not really, they just weren't told how to row properly). Our physical challengers(swimmers, monkey bar-ians :P, gladiators) were excellent however -Woot!-. Next up, mind games ~Oooo~ We settled this one with style, completing almost every challenge. After that, all 34 of us had to fit onto THREE cardboard planks, and move forward at the same time. It took much effort, and a few kids being carried up in the air, but we got this done. After that we had to spin around poles 10293813247 times and try to run a straight line back to our tribes. This was mega-lols. Almost every person ran diagonally and fell down-including Renee- xD A few people even ran completely sideways like a crab. Right after that, we were subjects of even more torture. With our dizzy heads, we had to run around a small enclosure whacking down letters of the alphabet. Yes, you heard me, ALPHABETS. A-Z. That was one fished up game right there.

Well, once we got our heads back on, we went down to the river/pool thingy for our next assignment. This time, we had to weave through rafia strings without touching them. This was cool, because every one in the tribe was a TIGER and tigers are slinky and flexible(actually, we just swam under them). Here comes the hard part: Once 10 people were past the maze thing, we would get ready on either side of another string. This one was quite high and long and straight. Turns out, these 10 people had to carry every next person over the string *Omaifishinggod WHAT* We had 9 strong guys, including Mal, Sanjiv, and myself, but we also had Crystal, who was basically just standing there supporting us. This is where the real competition started. We were up against the Moaning Cows. So we started the carrying, and we rocked at it. We beat them in the end through numbers, although thats not so important as what Yoke Yee did. She was the last in our tribe to be carried, and I'll admit, she was pretty.. hmm.. big-sized. We had a hard time carrying her, and she was also afraid of going over the rope, but we managed to get her over after 5 tries, much to the applause of everyone around us, including the facilitators and the Raging Bulls. Yoke Yee deserved that applause for being so brave :).... NOW EVERYONE BREAKS OUT INTO RASA SAYANG WHILE SPLASHING WATER AT EACH OTHER. Mr. Chief Suresh let us have a '10-minute break' which lasted pretty much for an hour to play in the pool and crap. This is where the real bonding and fun began :)

Crystal went to try out the Flying Fox first, while Malik, Ken Yoong and I met up and started wrestling on the log. I managed to push Darren off, then I "commited suicide" with Ken Yoong. Then we went to act like monkeys on the monkey bars, I managed to jump on Malik while he was midway through the bars ;) Next up, Sanjiv and I managed to corner Renee and Nabilla, we threw them in the river, much to our amusement and their -CENSORED-. Don't worry, they pushed us in as well. I went to look for Crystal and we later joined in and had lots of fun... -LOUD ALARM- Crap, fun times over, Chief man Suresh was standing there with his loudspeaker opening his mouth ready to talk...

"Everyone into the OTHER side of the river for PHOTO TAKING NOW!!"

Woot! We love that dude! *I rush to the other side of the river with Crystal, Renee, Nabilla, Malik and Sanjiv* We were all standing there in freezing cold water screaming and jumping for photos. Renee, Nabilla and Malik were shaking their a$es off from
low cold tolerance xD For the photos, I carried Malik, Renee and Crystal. We had lots and lots of fun and water splashing before Chief man told us to go shower and get ready for dinner. Mind you, this was no ordinairy dinner, this was a BBQ DINNER.

I had to wait 120912376 years with Ken Yoong before getting into the shower, which I did really really really fast. And this time there were no spiders ;) HI SANJIV.

Crystal, Renee, Nabilla, Ken Yoong, Sanjiv and *special guest* Malik decided to eat at the "Tiger Station" which was basically the big stairs next to the monkey bars and log over the river :) It was dark but who cares, we had each other. And the food was omfgwwwwtfBBQ awshum! Fried rice, Kuey Teow, Fries, Sausages, Chicken, Prawns, Fruits and some cool red color drink, to which I still have not figured out =P All of a sudden bossman Mal came in and decided that it was time to teach everyone the Haka which he showed me earlier. We(the Tigers) had some practice runs with the Haka, and Mal and I lost our voices halfway through so I was silent for the rest of the hour. After our dinner, we headed on out to the bonfire. Perfect activity for us all. We sat around the fire(Crystal and Renee were lying down all over the place) looking at stars and watching the giant fire. It was here that we had our Haka competition. The Warrior Lions were first, they had a cool Haka around the bonfire. Teh Uber Special ahshum Tigers were third to present the Haka, and we did, much to the applause of the other tribes. This is where Bossman Mal showed why he's the bossman :) However, there were some bad Hakas(Moaning Cows) that received the Apache Boo. We even got to watch the Completers and Facilitators show off their Hakas. Next, we sang songs around the bonfire, tribe by tribe. We didn't sing any real camp songs, but instead you would've heard songs like Bad boys, Oops I did it again, Where is the love, and many MANY more.

-Insert random post about how much I love you guys =)-

After the bonfire session, we went off to eat supper. No one in our gang actually felt like eating, until we found out it was DONUTS. Renee and I started jumping up and down :P We filled our plates up with donuts and went back to the Tiger Station to discuss our sketch. After some funny moments with donuts and a few inspirational ideas, we were interupted by Chief man Suresh who told us to go somewhere dark and secluded so that facilitators wouldn't find us and tell us to go to sleep(It was 12.30). So we took to his advice and found a spot in a canteen area in between Renee's dorm and mine =P It was here that Renee had to pee, again. The rest of the Tigers went to complete the sketch while Renee and Mal had some business to take care of.

Enter Crystal on ngantok mode =P Seriously, one of the most funny things I have ever seen in my life. She was the writer for the basic outline of the sketch, and where there should've been a speech by C.Ariva there was funky lyrics from a song Crystal and I had heard earlier.Zai zai zai zai ring a bell? =P We eventually got the sketch finished and Crystal then topped the night off with her statement, "Okay, finished the script. Now lets discuss the sex.". Roaring laughter folllowed by some angry/malu moments from Crystal xD Several minutes later, a few fall-asleep-on-my-shoulder moments from Crystal, a facilitator encounter and a brush with a stick insect(Relax Sanjiv, its not a spider) we finally finished our discussion-no rehearsals though :(- So I said good night to Amalina, Renee and a very sleepy Crystal and watched them go off with Ken Yoong before heading back to my dorm :P

It being the last night, the Tigers were all pretty sad as they went back to the dorms, but we did get to lepak with each other till 1.30 =) K.Y and I lepaked with Sanjiv for a while in the dorms before going to sleep. Bossman and Khes-Money came in at 5.30 after playing cards xD

~Day 3~ 18th Dec

I was woken up early in the morning at 5am by some idiot with a loud alarm. The whole dorm was swearing at him @.@ I re-woke at 6.30 with some assistance from Firdaus(another Tiger). I was still groggy, but went to brush my teeth anyway with K.Y. On the way down I bumped into Malik and Crystal who were waiting for Renee, who was probably pee-ing again :P We decided to go down and eat breakfast first. Malik, K.Y, Crystal and I managed to find a table and had some nice left over fried rice from the BBQ dinner and good ol' Milo. Renee joined in later on, greeting us with her classic stoned face. We had a good time eating and laughing before we were called by Chief man Suresh to go pack up and bring our bags down.

*Insert sadness here*

This is where it starts to
hurt. :( We were all sad that we'd be going. But we'd go out with a BANG. In the hall, we had our presentation(sketch), but not before a short power outage that left everyone cheering for some reason :P In the end, we managed to pull off our rushed sketch, with me as the great hero Captain ARIVA, and Sanjiv as the clown of the sketch, pulling off the most amazing jokes and stunts, and one "We will rock you" rap solo :) Crystal was also a great narrator, and Darren and K.Y were best crowd managers!! ;)

After the sketches, the prize giving ceremony started. And waddya know, The Rising -Super Awshum- Tigers won first place! We beat the Warrior Lions, Raging Bulls, Black Hawks, Growling Bears, Ghostly Wolves and Biting Pythons for this honor. Malik and his wolves came in third which was great =D No one from the Tigers won the most popular, most friendly and most helpful Apache awards due to Chinese bias, but who cares, we're all winners in our hearts =)

It was a teary goodbye as we hugged and said farewell to all our tribe members. Crystal was hugging everyone left right and center because she was going far far away to Johor :( Renee was also jumping around hugging everyone with her stoned face :P. One last group hug and e-mail/phone number exchange and off we went to our buses. I didn't see Malik, Renee, Darren or K.Y again, as they were on different buses T_T. The Singh Man, Nabilla and Cash-Money were on my bus, so no worries about them. At the bus depot, I was waiting to see any of the guys one last time, but it seemed like a dying hope. All of a sudden, I saw Crystal walking up! Yay, at least I get to see her one last time =) We had a last minute chat and hugged before she went off to Johor. I had to get on my bus then =(

On the bus, Sanjiv and I were chatting non stop about carrots while Kheswin was walking up and down doing don't know what and Nabilla was being a naughty girl at the back of the bus! -I see what you did thar- :P

Conclusion: Kumon HAC camp '08 was great, I met a lot of new friends and clicked instantly, we had lots of good times, and got a few girls e-mails and hp numbers *wink wink* ;)

Malik and Renee, my two best buddies
